Check your moods during this Coronavirus Pandemic!

Check on your moods

Every day the world is dealing with coronavirus. It’s is in our faces. Coronavirus doesn’t judge who it wants to infect + kill. In my lifetime I never thought I would be dealing with a pandemic. I think of my grandparents ~ my nana who would talk about having a ration book for things like meat, sugar and butter.

Maybe we should go back to having a ration book because this would mean that everyone gets a bit of everything. Even in Cairns here, I still can’t get toilet paper after many weeks of coronavirus. . Is there an insanity monster hiding somewhere near the supermarket who jumps out at people and infects them with making weird + irrational decisions. Now is the time to stay calm + meditate, stay calm + read a book, or stay calm and do something around the house that you always meant to do but never got round to it.

Have fun!

5 tips to creating custom wedding invites

5 Tips for creating beautiful wedding invitations.

My 5 tips for creating beautiful wedding invitations is very simple + easy to do. Pinterest is  your best friend. It can help you pinpoint elements you like for your wedding invitation. You might have done this already and have a Pinterest account with several images and ideas for your ideal wedding style.

Tip 1

Check to see what the wedding invitation trends are for the year. All you need to do is google wedding invitation trends + the year.

For 2020 the styles are:

  • Acrylic
  • Blind Letterpress
  • Hand Written Calligraphy
  • Minimalism Designs
  • Metallics
  • Geometric floral and greenery.

Be a maverick + ask your artistic friend to design + create your beautiful wedding invitations. Then it really will be a piece of art for your special wedding day.

Tip 2

Use one or two metallic foil elements within the design to make certain elements pop. As shown in in my design for Heli, she picked their names and some gold flowers scatttered around the design.

Tip 3

Pick a really nice card stock that is at least 250gsm to 300gsm in weight. If you pick a lighter colour like a cream or white, you will be able to have a whole range of techniques that you can use like watercolour, motifs and crests. Darker colours can work well but you will have to make white blocks as I have created for this reply card for your family and friends to write their names.

Wedding Response Card

Tip 4

If you are using envelopes, get these first! By doing this you can get your designer to design your invitations 2 or 3mm smaller so the invitation will fit correctly in the envelope. If you have a large gathering, and know you are going to need 200 – 300 guests when means 150 invitations with reply cards, make sure everything can fit in the envelope without it costing you high postal fees. Take a sample to Australia Post and check the thickness of your combined stationery in the envelope.

Check here for the Australia Post’s postage costs for 2020:

I believe that you and your partner want this moment to be remembered forever in the minds of your guests. By having a custom made design you get to choose your design, your foil colours and convey a style that is your own. Your customised design will have everyone racing to get on the phone or sending their response card very quickly.

Tip 5

One of the things I do create for my clients is a personalised honeyfund card. A honeyfund card has all the details of your bank account so that you don’t have to nominate a person to look after all the cash that people give you.  or a card that has your bank details for your guest

Create an invitation so unique that it’s getting everyone jumping out of bed so early that they are at your ceremony hours before the actual starting time.

Let me show you the tools I used to design my wedding invitation that I get asked about all the time.

Are wedding invitations really that important?

These days everything is so digital, so receiviving something so tactile like a hand crafted wedding invitation or save the date card is such a beautiful experience and I think very important in today’s world. Receiving beautiful stationery that is made using traditional letterpress printing techniques is a beautiful tactile experience to receive invitations decorated with watercolour styles, using embossing techniques or even foil.I think so! It sets the scene for how you and your partner are going to celebrate your love together and show the world that this is a celebration of a partnership, of love, of a life together that will be a journey.

Save the date cards
Save the date cards are a great idea if you have family and friends making the journey from other states in Australia or if they are coming from overseas and needing accommodation.

The really important thing is to create a theme that runs through your whole wedding stationery. So for example, I created this circular watercolour for the main invitation which was enhanced with mini gold stars and the names of the bride and groom foiled in this beautiful copper gold colour.

Honeyfund Cards
I then took a section of it to create a personalised Honeyfund card that the bride and groom could send with the invite so the guests could donate using the bride and groom’s bank details. Most couples have spent a couple of years together and usually have every thing they need. Setting up a bank account for any money that you receive from guests could go to travelling or even to the drinks package of the venue.

The process to help your stationery designer
Go on Pinterest and make a private section for you to pin a heap of different invitations that appeal to you that you can share with your designer. Just keep pinning until you think you have quite a variety of invitations, save the dates, reply cards whatever wedding stuff you can find. It might be water colour flowers or illustrations that represent a particular meaning for the bride and groom, or a place card that looks really pretty. Pin stuff of wedding dresses, bridesmaids and groomsmen and even layouts of the tables or the table seating plans.

Once you have 30 -40 images then you will look at them and you need to make an instant decision of Yes I Love it or I hate it or it doesn’t move me at all. These you get rid of! You should be seeing an consistent theme of similar images. After you go through and delete the ones that don’t get you excited, then you can take the rest to a designer to create your own personalised wedding stationery.

To get these designed if you live in a big city, find a young high school kid or someone who is in uni doing a graphic design course and ask them to design your invites in illustrator or photoshop and use adobe indesign so they export it as an high resolution PDF and now you can send it to a printer using 250gsm cardstock.
